Mayor Ray Flynn announces plans to integrate public housing in South Boston.

Flynn announces that the city has entered into a “voluntary compliance” integration plan with the Department of Housing and Urban Development a few weeks after the city was notified by HUD that it had determined much of Boston’s public housing is segregated. Integration proceeds and supervision of the Boston Housing Authority by HUD ends on September 8, 1990.
